About Bowls USA
President's Message - Cornonavirus March 27
Fellow Bowls USA Members,
As I am writing this to you all, I am amazed at how much has changed in the last two weeks. The Bowls USA Executive Committee and the Bowls USA Councilors finished a meeting last night to address the effect COVID-19 has had on our sport and what we are going to do about it. This notice is to inform you of the actions we have decided to take, as well as inform you of the actions World Bowls has taken.
Internationally: the World Indoor, World Bowls and the North American Challenge are postponed to next year. The only international event tentatively remaining on the calendar is the Champion of Champions scheduled for late October.
In the US: the SW Open, National Championships and US Open are cancelled for 2020. These are unfortunate but necessary given the current climate.
These tournaments represent a large portion of the expenditures of BUSA for 2020. Because of this, BUSA will be treating the years 2020 and 2021 as the “2021 season” concerning BUSA dues payment. Essentially, BUSA will only collect one set of dues per member from divisions during these two years. If you have already submitted your dues for the current year, your BUSA dues are already covered for 2021.
One of the services that BUSA will continue to provide is our GoTo Meeting account for online meetings. With social distancing being the norm, yet group discussions still necessary, we offer this service for your clubs and divisions to use at no charge. If you would like to use this feature, please contact BUSA’s wonderful secretary, Dee McSparran, at email@example.com. She is coordinating reservations for its use.
Currently, many communities are being asked to self-quarantine and stay home except for essentials, such as grocery shopping. If you are in one of these communities, please follow the mandates until they are lifted and STAY HOME. We envision a time in the hopeful near future when we will be allowed to resume at least part of our normal lives, including bowls, even if the virus has not fully passed. One our members, Dr. Anna Witt, put together a list of suggestions to follow when bowling, but still following social distancing guidelines. You can view them below.
We continue to strongly advise you to follow the CDC recommendations and guidance, which you can get more details from this link https://www.cdc.gov/. Above all, please stay safe and healthy.
