Monday, June 17th -- 7:45 p.m.
It’s 5 o’clock in the evening, getting ready to leave for the Opening Ceremony.
And we’re off!
8:30 p.m. -- there were 19 countries represented at the Opening Ceremony, Burnei not being able to make it at the last minute. The Philippines got a big kick out of popping the balloons that festooned the tables. Whether by accident or not, I’m not really sure. But once the first one went, there were a lot more of them.
Just a couple of remarks by a representative of Bowls Australia and World Bowls, all the countries announced, and that was it.
We ate dinner in the same area of downtown Broadbeach on our way back to our home away from home. No gelato, though. Time to hit the sack and dream about winning gold.
(Early morning update: it’s 5 o’clock, Tuesday, June 18th. The birds are beginning to chirp, my coffee is in front of me, the house is so quiet, and I’m sitting here in front of this little Acer mini-laptop and I’m smiling. It’s finally here -- the first day of the matches. Eager to bowl, determined to win, ready for whatever happens. It’s all good.)
And now for Alex's take on the day:
