Our fantastic crew in the Southeast are hard at work to bring top-notch international bowls to our greens. The following is a letter to World bowls. Check it out.

Also check out Richard Broad's informative President's message with some huge news here!

Dear World Bowls Leader,
This letter is to invite you and your country membership to participate in the US Open in Sarasota,  Florida United States of America,  November 11th -18th, 2017.   It is our wish to build international collaboration between our countries. Last year, we had 15 countries and 235 athletes participate in the 2016 US Open.
In the past, we were able to assist international players requiring Visa’s by furnishing Letters of Invitation. We have also made special arrangements with local hotels to accommodate players at a variety of affordable price levels.
Registration is filling up quickly; please register now at www.USOpenbowls.com.
If you or your membership would like to travel without your bowls, one of our major sponsors is Taylor Bowls (www.Taylorbowls.com).  New Bowls are available to be purchased in advance and held for pick up at the US Open. Please allow 3-6 weeks.
I look forward to meeting you personally at the US Open. By the way, I have attached a printable.PDF for you to promote the US Open or if helpful for you to use for your country or club to assist in building membership in your country.
 Sincere Regards,

Daniel Jittu
Chairman, US Open Committee

NEW GREENS FOR THE WILLIAMSBURG LAWN BOWLING CLUB

After losing their green when the Williamsburg Inn decided to close down the greens last year, the Williamsburg Inn LBC itself decided not to give up. They have found two locations to play as they continue to look for a permanent home. Here is a report they sent to Bowls USA to share.
Roll ups will be held semi-weekly at the Williamsburg Inn tennis court, which has a Har-Tru surface similar to rubico, and tournaments will be played on a grass green in nearby Middlesex County.  Last year, Colonial Williamsburg, who owned the Club’s green, turned over its golf operations to an outside firm, and the lawn bowling green, which was part of that contract, was converted into additional space for golf.
Over the past year, the Club has tried various venues for social bowling and competition.  The tennis court surface has been fairly successful (the net is removed, but the posts remain).  One member, Sissy Hall, began to explore the possibility of using local croquet greens.  She tried a few locations before contacting Macey White, who runs the Middlesex Croquet Club about forty miles from Williamsburg and who was interested in having bowlers use his green.  He has laid out four greens which provides ample space for a regulation bowling green.  The surface is level and surprisingly fast.  Fourteen members attended the rainy season opener earlier this month and were very positive about the surface.
The Club continues to pursue its long-term goal of the construction of a new green in the Williamsburg area.  It has been working with the local Parks and Recreation Department and presented a proposal to the James City County Board of Supervisors, who agreed to review it in the next fiscal year.
Dan Berg added the following interesting color about some of the people mentioned above. Lawn Bowls is great!
Sissy Hall, who located the Middlesex County Croquet Club, is a longtime member who learned to bowl as a child from her parents at Buck Hill Falls.  She still goes back there regularly and enjoys bowling there and at Skytop.
Macey White, who runs the Middlesex Croquet Club, is a 21-century renaissance man.  In addition to the 4 croquet greens he built in the last two years, he runs the county shooting club which is adjacent to the green.  He plays croquet all over the country, owns additional property elsewhere, including a Christmas tree farm, and is the bail bondsman for Middlesex County.  Last week was the first time we ever bowled to the sound of guns firing at a shooting range in the nearby field!

Well done Williamsburg!!
Persevere!!

BELOW: photos of the plaque dedicated to Bill's service to community, to bowls and the Coronado club provided by Bill Brault! Bill Hiscock has been a long-time dedicated champion bowler and a superb guy. Congrats Bill and Thank you from Bowls USA for how you have represented this sport. Good News from the Northwest

For more years than many of us can remember the lovely setting that is Wright Park in Tacoma, Washington has been without the swish nor swoosh of Lawn Bowls upon the green. That appears to no longer be the case and if the group shown in the photo is any indication enthusiasm abounds and Bowls are rolling again.

Any chance of keeping our clubs alive and flourishing has to be embraced and followed up on.

We welcome you back Tacoma we hope you will join the Northwest Division of Bowls USA and receive all the benefits, advice and all round good companionship we have to offer.

While we have had some recent successes in various parts of the country with new greens being built, others revived, we still have a continuing decline In clubs. The Southwest has been fighting hard, and has won some important battles, but with the abandonment of Lake Hodges and the decline of San Clemente, there is much more work to do.

All our efforts must be directed more to the needs of those in trouble, while in turn they need to reach out to us, Bowls USA for any help, if only encouragement, that we can offer.

BAF. Bring a friend.
MAF. Mentor a friend.
One new member at a time.

Have a wonderful 4th of July.
Richard Broad. President, Bowls USA.
