President's Message

Dear Bowls USA Members,
Hope everyone is having a safe new year so far! It seems there is some hope now with the vaccine being administered but we are still under some uncertainty as to when things will be back to normal. I would still like to remain somewhat optimistic as I know many of you miss bowling right now. Unfortunately, we will have to wait probably till the middle of the year to have any certainty regarding our bowling future.
In the meantime, I would like to share some updates and news and hope you all will understand that the decisions were made with everyone’s safety and well-being in mind.
2021 Events – National Championships in Milwaukee, WI and US Open in California
The majority of the Executive Committee and Councilors have decided to cancel both events this year again as there are currently a lot of restrictions in place in regards to clubs having outside visitors coming to play. With the National Championships being in August, this will affect playdowns in both AZ and CA. In addition, there are many clubs in California that are currently not even open and this will affect the planning of our major event, the US Open. Therefore, at this time, it does not make sense to wait and have these two events planned and then canceled at a later date.
The upside during our discussion was possibly putting together a one-time event sometime later in the year that would be for the US only. More to come later…
Clarification on 2020 and 2021 Bowls USA Dues
For the 4 Divisions (Pacific Inter-Mountain, South Central, Southeast, Southwest) that paid their Bowls USA dues in 2020….
Reminders:
For the 3 Divisions (Northeast, Northwest and Central) that did not pay their Bowls USA dues in 2020
2015 Laws of the Sport of Bowls (Rule Book)
We have updated the Domestic Regulations. Instructions on how to identify and update your Rule Book are on the Policies & Procedures Page.
Bowls USA Grant Program
We are planning to resume the Grant Program this year with some increase in funding due to the pandemic. A new application with criteria information will be sent out in a separate email blast sometime in February/March from the Grant Committee Program. I encourage those clubs that need assistance and are struggling to please apply.
